Another NASTYbook

CLIENT: HarperCollins Publishers
ROLE: Designer/Art Director
CREDITS: Written by Barry Yourgrau. Illustrated by Robert DeJesus.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION :
This was a sequel to Barry Yourgrau's NASTYbook, a collection of short, nasty stories for young adults. This book was one long story involving goblins, candy, manga, and the Tweetie brothers. I created the ripped looking cover and spiral spine to give this book a "nastier" feel to it. The orange is a 5th color Pantone ink. The interior has ripped pages, scuff marks, and various doodles throughout. In keeping with the silly and bizarre tone of the book, I altered the running heads
in unusual ways throughout—sometimes the numbers are wrong, sideways, the author's name is replaced with phrases like "Harry Forebrow", etc.—and I also did unusual things with the chapter numbers. There is roughly 15 pages of manga art as well, illustrated by Robert DeJesus and lettered by myself. This book had a lot of components to it that make it a fun, different, and successful package.
