The Secrets to Ruling School (Without Even Trying)

So, major news. What all my friends and family have known, but you guys haven’t, is that for the past two years I’ve been working on an incredible new project. It’s my very first authored and illustrated middle grade novel, The Secrets to Ruling School (Without Even Trying)!

Guys. I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this!

The Secrets to Ruling School (Without Even Trying) is the kind of book I always wanted to read as a kid and always wanted to make as an adult. The book is a crazy hybrid of fictional novel and guidebook combined with comics and illustrations that teaches kids how to get one over on everybody (including teachers and students) to survive middle school in the easiest way possible. And, like a video game, you, the reader, are actually experiencing the events of the book itself as you’re led around by self-proclaimed middle school expert and student savior Max Corrigan, who’s got a plan for everything—including his quest to get you in with all the major social groups at any cost. And I mean any cost. It’s an awesome, hilarious, and unique read unlike any other book that I can think of. I’ve poured every bit of myself into it and am so thrilled to be able to share it with you.

The Secrets to Ruling School (Without Even Trying) will be published by Abrams Amulet on September 1st, 2015—just in time for school! And there’s a follow up book scheduled for a year later, so the fun and laughs will keep coming! If you have kids going into middle school, are in middle school, or just want a wickedly entertaining read about middle school, this is the book for you.

A kick-butt website is in the works which will show you a lot more about Max Corrigan and the novel. In the meantime, the book is available right now for pre-order from a bunch of places (additional ones to come as the book gets listed). I’m so pumped for this book and can’t wait to share more of it (and more news about it) in the coming weeks and months! If you’re a teacher, librarian, bookseller, journalist, or fan who wants to know more, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
